KnippKnopp interviews Gregory Frost
Sweet! I have just received contributor’s copies of the October-November 2013 double issue of Asimov’s Science Fiction, which contains my novelette “No Others Are Genuine.” On the stands and available in eformats almost immediately. And in very good company, too, including my old pal Jack Dann, Paul Di Filipo, and the great Kristine Kathryn Rusch.
The official Geekadelphia Interview. It’s a wonderful thing. Really.

Your characters are expressions of the context in which they live; meaning that their world has made them, defined them, screwed them up. How has it screwed them up? Go write a 500 word essay telling me how. Right-the-hell-now.

Sunday, June 23rd begins the 2013 Clarion Write-a-thon. Unlike walk-a-thons, we’re writing, and instead of your pledging by mile, it’s by page count, or chapters, or story, between June 23rd and August 3rd.
Think of it as a NaNoWriMo where you sponsor authors to achieve their daily goals.
I’m one of over 140 participating writers. Please consider donating, or sponsoring–either me or any of the other writers or teams. (Right now I’ve joined up with science fiction author John Kessel to create The League of Argyle Socks. (No, Captain Nemo is not a member so stop asking that.)
There are various prizes as well, and all money raised goes to support the Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Workshop program at UCSD.
All donations are made through The Clarion Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, EIN #20-3114945.
Go ahead, make us write!
And thanks.

Sense of Wonder – A Century of Science Fiction
Textbook Release
Sense of Wonder is a broad, inexpensive, single-volume anthology designed to give students a sense both of literature and history. By far the most comprehensive speculative fiction textbook available, Sense of Wonder includes canonical works, stories written in response to those works, and essays on major themes and topics in the field. The book will facilitate a variety of different types of speculative fiction course, whether the course is focused on particular themes, on a chronological look at writers, or on the roots of contemporary SF. Beginning with nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century writers, Sense of Wonder continues up through the most acclaimed present-day writers. Stories are not treated as purely academic exercises, but contextualized, which is vital in reading a genre where most writers know each other and the relationship between writer and reader is a major factor in how stories are created.
The collection includes 225 stories, poems, and bibliographic essays (contributed by professors who teach science fiction and by SF professionals), with an emphasis on the roots of modern SF. Each story author is given a biographical introduction as well.
The full Table of Contents is listed on the website.

At least, that’s what Philadelphia Weekly‘s calling their interview with award-winning editor/writer Gardner Dozois at the plaque dedication ceremony for Isaac Asimov in Philadelphia last week.
SF Signal currently features Harry Markov answering that question to good effect and inviting others to pump up the volume.
BBC Scotland has reported the most awful news that terrific author Iain Banks has revealed that he has late stage cancer and is unlikely to live for more than a year.
